Our Thoughts

I was at a PGA Superstore today getting my putter regripped and a driver shaft regripped and I stumbled upon a used Taylormade Putter with an L.A.B. offset forward press grip on it, I’ve seen the grip before because a buddy has the directed force putter from L.A.B.

I hate the look of that putter, but I was interested in the grip, turns out they make the grips and sell them separately.

So this little used putter in the putting zone was just sitting there, I like a short putter, this one was 32″ (I’m not very tall so this was perfect for me).

I nearly walked out with the putter. I have never felt a grip that put my hands in such good position before, I honestly felt like I could make anything.

I hated the Taylormade putter but the grip, length, combo on a mallet had me sold.

I came home and purchased the grip immediately for $34.99.

I have an odyssey v-line that I’ve had a love hate relationship with for a number of years and looked at the specs on the putter that I was playing with the grip with and they are the exact same lie, so I’m going to cut down the odyssey an inch as the toe is up when I use it and slap my new grip on it as soon as it gets here.

In the meantime it’s back to my Ping H Tyne now that I finally got rid of the Superstroke that was on it.

I’ll update when I hit the course with it, but if it goes anything like the practice green went, (I made too many putts in a row to count), I could see it being my new gamer combination.

Updates to follow.

THE PROBLEM

If you’ve ever tried to “forward press,” you know that you need to position your hands ahead of the ball for it to work — either at the address or at the moment of impact. It’s not an easy thing to learn or execute, but almost all the best golfers in the world do it because it helps them get their putts rolling faster and truer.

Think of forward pressing like “hitting up” with your driver. With a forward shaft lean, it’s easier to create an upward putter swing at impact that encourages a faster forward ball roll (i.e. reduced skidding, backspin, etc.).

THE SOLUTION

Press Grips eliminate the need for golfers to consciously “forward press.” The forward lean of the putter shaft is established through the grip design, eliminating yet another variable in the putting stroke. We’re all about eliminating variables!
